ARC Raiders Dam Battlegrounds Lore: The Alcantara Power Plant and the First Wave

Dam Battlegrounds is the ARC Raiders map built around the Alcantara Power Plant, a dam that Raiders simply call the Dam. Its in-game Codex entry says it was a rare lifeline for settlers during the age of Sunrise, then became a shell-scarred battleground in the closing battles of the First Wave. Today the land around it is toxic and waterlogged, ARC skirmishes still break out there, and for most Raiders it is the first map they ever drop into.

That history is why the Dam carries more First Wave story than anywhere else in the Rust Belt. Celeste's squad fought here, Tian Wen's search for her mother leads here, and a run of quests asks you to pull their belongings out of the swamp.

Key takeaways

  • The Dam is the Alcantara Power Plant, a rare lifeline for settlers in the age of Sunrise.
  • Its Codex entry places the closing battles of the First Wave here, and First Wave sites such as Victory Ridge still stand.
  • Celeste built an EMP trap at the Dam during the First Wave, and Raiders now use it to ambush each other.
  • Present-day quests tie the Dam to Speranza's food and water, from farming research older than the First Wave to a poisoned water intake.

What the Dam was: the Alcantara Power Plant

The Codex entry is short, but it gives the Dam three lives. First it was a working power plant, a rare lifeline for settlers in the age of Sunrise. The game does not say much more about Sunrise, but the order is clear: settlers relied on the Dam first, and the war came after.

Then ARC arrived. The same entry says the plant became a shell-scarred battleground during the closing battles of the First Wave. The third life is the current one. Between the research buildings, the Dam structures and the ramshackle hydroponic domes, the Codex says Raiders know it as a reliable source of valuable loot.

Embark's launch summary described the map as forests, swamps, old research centers and apartment buildings, which matches what you see from the first drop. The lore is in how those pieces fit together: a power plant that fed people, a battlefield that killed them, and a swamp that grew over both.

Walking the First Wave battlefield at the Dam

If you want to see the First Wave instead of reading about it, this is the map. Quests from Tian Wen and Celeste turn the old battlefield into a string of memorials, and they read best in the order the game hands them out.

The hallowed grounds by the Scrap Yard

Tian Wen opens the thread in Broken Monument. She calls the site an old battleground from the First Wave and complains that Raiders pick such places clean, forgetting the significance they once held. You recover a compass near the broken-down vehicles, a video tape near the cylindrical containers and old field rations from a Raider camp, and she wants all three.

Celeste's EMP trap at Victory Ridge

Straight Record is close to a confession. During the First Wave, Celeste and her squad overloaded a generator by the Dam and turned it into a makeshift ARC trap. Now Raiders use it to cut comms and spring ambushes on each other, so she sends you to Victory Ridge to throw three power switches and shut it down.

The quest after it, Keeping the Memory, is an apology. Celeste says she lost her cool, that they went through a lot in the First Wave and lost a lot of people, and that it is still a raw wound. The job is small: find a missing helmet at wreckage in the Formicai Hills and return it to the memorial.

The outpost under the broken highway

In Echoes of Victory Ridge, the ground shifts and exposes an old First Wave outpost that debris had sealed for years. Celeste wants it searched before anyone else gets there. You come out with battle plans from a hideout under the broken highway and a patch that belonged to Major Aiva.

Tian Wen's mother

Tian Wen finally explains herself in The Major's Footlocker. Those First Wave sites were a long shot: she was hoping to find something of her mother's, who fought in the Raider resistance. Her new lead points to Major Aiva's mementos in apartments northwest of the Dam. The quest text never says outright that Aiva is her mother, though the title and the timing make that the obvious reading. The Tian Wen page follows the rest of her story.

Barons, husks and the ARC still at the Dam

The machines of the First Wave never left. Shani's Dormant Barons says the Barons did more damage than all the other ARC combined during the First Wave, and that they now sit as husks, fixed in place where they once fell. The Dam is one of the maps where you can open one up and take what is inside.

Live ARC still patrol the swamp. A newer quest for the Nomadic Envoy, Taking Stock, asks Raiders to ping a Bombardier on Dam Battlegrounds, and Shani's drone quest, The Trifecta, sends you after Wasps, Hornets and Snitches here as well as on Buried City, the Spaceport and Blue Gate.

Since Frozen Trail, the Dam has also been on the ARC Frigate rotation. Embark says ARC sent the Frigate, one of its largest vessels, in answer to the fallen Emperor at Pendola Pass, and now it can turn up over the old battlefield too.

What Speranza needs from the Dam now

Most of the Dam's newer story is about keeping Speranza fed and supplied with water. The old plant is still a lifeline, just in a smaller, scrappier way.

Food comes first. Celeste's A Balanced Harvest chases agricultural research from before the First Wave to Lab 1 in the Research & Administration building. The files you find there point to the hydroponic domes in the swamp, which Untended Garden says the cultivation researchers built. The trail then leaves the Dam for a seed vault in Buried City.

Water is next. Water Troubles starts with Celeste fielding complaints all day and sends you through the Flood Access Tunnel under the Red Lake Balcony to sample the District's water supply. Source of the Contamination finds suspicious objects near the Flood Spill Intake, and Shani's A Toxic Trail follows the barrels to a truck in the swamp, hunting for the saboteur. The key found in that truck later opens the next step at the Spaceport.

Then there is the flag. In A Symbol of Unification, Celeste remembers the scrap of cloth Raiders once flew so allies knew they were on home turf, and she has you hoist a new one at the Formicai Outpost, on a small platform overlooking the Red Lake. Shani picks up the mood in her next quest: 'Did you see the flags? The time for cowering is over.'

The outposts follow. Tian Wen marks the Pattern House as a future outpost in Back on Top, and Shani's Our Presence Up There restores its power and finishes an antenna on the roof to help track ARC. A newer Celeste quest, A Rising Tide, opens another thread: she reads that a foreman at the Dam was recruited right after something called Project Heartwood was canceled, and was put in charge of a big reconstruction project.

Even the lighter quests start from hard facts. Apollo's The League begins because kids in Speranza have been kicking empty grenade casings around, and he would rather they had a real football team. One step is a photo of the goal by the Water Towers.

Dam landmarks and what they say

Building names in quest objectives tell you what each part of the plant was for. These are the ones with a story attached.

  • The Water Treatment Control building holds a Locked Room that Celeste wants scouted for Tian Wen's salvage, and the intake below it is where the poisoned barrels turned up.
  • The Research & Administration building has Lab 1 and a medical room that Lance raids for equipment in Medical Merchandise.
  • The Hydroponic Dome Complex in the swamp is the cultivation researchers' work, still standing and still holding their data.
  • Victory Ridge has Celeste's EMP trap and the First Wave outpost under the broken highway.
  • The Formicai Hills and the Formicai Outpost hold the memorial helmet and the new Raider flag.
  • The South Swamp Outpost and a northern outpost over the Red Lakes are where Celeste lost two journals on an inspection trip, in Celeste's Journals.
  • The Controlled Access Zone is a previously sealed high-security area that opened in the Shrouded Sky update (patch 1.17.0, February 24, 2026). Embark's hint for finding it was the Rocketeer chandelier. The Shrouded Sky update recap has more.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Dam in ARC Raiders lore?

The Dam is the Alcantara Power Plant. Its in-game Codex entry says it was a rare lifeline for settlers in the age of Sunrise and became a battleground in the closing battles of the First Wave. Today it sits in toxic, waterlogged land that ARC still fights over.

What happened at Victory Ridge in ARC Raiders?

Victory Ridge is a First Wave site on Dam Battlegrounds. Celeste's squad turned an overloaded generator there into an EMP trap, and a later shift in the ground exposed an old First Wave outpost with battle plans inside. The quests are Straight Record and Echoes of Victory Ridge.

Who is Major Aiva in ARC Raiders?

Major Aiva appears in Dam Battlegrounds quests. Raiders recover her patch from a First Wave outpost at Victory Ridge, and her mementos from apartments northwest of the Dam for Tian Wen, whose mother fought in the Raider resistance. The quests strongly suggest Aiva is Tian Wen's mother but never say so outright.

What are the Baron husks on Dam Battlegrounds?

Barons were First Wave ARC machines. Shani says they did more damage than all the other machines combined, and their husks still stand where they fell. You open one in Dormant Barons.
