ARC Raiders Blue Gate Lore: The Gate, the Nomads and MANTIKOR

The Blue Gate in ARC Raiders is a mountain valley where the Rust Belt runs into the peaks, built around a guarded gate and checkpoint on the way into the mountains. Its in-game description calls the gate a once steadfast symbol of defiant connection that now serves as a daunting way into dangerous mountain ranges, and says the valley bears "scars both new and old." The Codex adds a practical detail: Speranza's Tube network only recently reached the gates, so Raiders had to put up new structures before they could work here at all.

Keep that line about old and new scars in mind while you play it. Some of what Raiders find here is older than the Exodus, like a cancelled housing project and a security wing full of logs. Some of it is recent enough to worry Shani. The sections below follow both kinds of damage through quest text and the Codex, and the guesswork sits in its own labeled section at the end.

Key takeaways

  • The Blue Gate is the valley where the Rust Belt opens onto the mountains, and Speranza's Tube network reached it only recently.
  • Shani's quests track a fresh highway collapse, and the Codex traces a major fracture under the Rust Belt back to this area.
  • An unknown group the Codex calls the Blue Gate Nomads brought down ARC Deforesters here and left the husks in unusually good shape.
  • Under the valley, MANTIKOR's tunnels hold logs about mutinies that stop a few weeks before the Exodus.

A new foothold at the edge of the mountains

For most of Speranza's history this valley sat out of easy reach. The Codex entry for the Blue Gate says the Tubes only recently stretched this far, and A First Foothold opens on the same note. The Tube network has just been extended toward the Blue Gate, the rest of the work is still going, and the crew building infrastructure around the valley keeps getting interrupted by ARC.

The jobs in that quest double as a tour. You stabilize an observation deck near the Ridgeline, switch on a comms terminal near the Olive Grove, turn the satellite dishes on a church roof north of the Data Vault and nail down roof plates on a Raider structure near Trapper's Glade. Each one is Speranza moving in.

The new route changed the black market too. In Armored Transports, Tian Wen grumbles that rare pieces started turning up for sale once the tunnels reached the Blue Gate, while he is stuck selling battered old Rattlers. His lead sends you to the guard huts at the Checkpoint for an armored patrol key card, then into the Traffic Tunnel to open the back of an armored patrol car. Later, Back on Top has him mark a white lookout tower south of the Warehouse Complex as a spot for the Topside outposts Shani wants to build.

New scars: a fresh collapse and a fracture

The first thing that bothers Shani here is a road. In Reduced to Rubble she points out that most of Topside fell apart ages ago, but the collapsed highway at the Blue Gate looks recent. You photograph it, walk into an area called the Broken Earth, follow a trail of destruction through it and investigate the unknown ARC machines waiting at the end.

The Codex entry on the Tremors fills in the bigger picture. Faint, distant tremors have been felt in the Rust Belt for generations, and they have grown stronger and more frequent. Then a sudden fracture collapsed several buildings in Toledo and damaged major infrastructure, and data from Shani's LiDAR scanners traced it back to the area around the Blue Gate. She gets those scanners in A Lay of the Land at the Spaceport, so two maps share one investigation.

Then there is the Deforester. In A Prime Specimen, Shani says the Deforester by the Blue Gate caused real devastation, yet a husk in that condition makes an ideal sample for Speranza's research. She wants two ARC Powercells brought along to get inside. No quest says the Deforester caused the fracture, so treat them as two separate wounds until the game connects them.

The Blue Gate Nomads

The valley's strangest find is a machine somebody else killed. In With a Trace, Shani looks at a downed ARC machine and admits Speranza did not do it. She knows stray survivors live out there, but this goes far beyond anything one person could manage. You head to the Barren Clearing to look for signs of who did it, then inspect the Adorned Wreckage and a communications device left nearby.

The Codex gives the group a name: the Blue Gate Nomads, a nomadic society of survivors first spotted here. They are recognized by their flags and makeshift decorations, they were involved in bringing down the ARC Deforester, and whatever method they used left the husks surprisingly pristine. It names no individual and no leader.

The Codex also lists the Blue Gate Nomads as a related entry for the Nomadic Envoys, the surface traders who sent Ermal to Speranza and later replaced him with Cassio. A newer quest, A Path Not Yours, has an unnamed speaker say their group lingered by the Blue Gate for some time before their paths changed, and that something belonging to them may still lie at the end of an old trail. Our Speranza page covers what the envoys do in the city.

Older scars: Project Heartwood and MANTIKOR

The pre-Exodus story at the Blue Gate is about research that got shut down and the security force that shut it.

The housing project

Apollo wants Speranza earthquake-proof, and his housing research quest brings you here for the paper trail. You get into a locked room at Pilgrim's Peak, search it for construction research, find the building drawn on a whiteboard and photograph an abandoned housing project.

The Codex explains what that project was. Project Heartwood was a wide research effort meant to slow, adapt to or outlast the ecological collapse, and the housing project by the Blue Gate turned out to be research into earthquake-proof homes. The same entry says a group named MANTIKOR abruptly cancelled Heartwood's ongoing projects and redirected the money to the Exodus. Shani's follow-up, A Dead End, puts it plainly: the people here were trying to stave off the Collapse, and then MANTIKOR shut them down. Player guides place that quest in MANTIKOR's facility under the valley.

The tunnels under the valley

Home to Roost goes further down. Shani has been reading old logs about mutinies that MANTIKOR repressed, and the entries simply stop a few weeks before the Exodus. You reach the back of the Blue Gate tunnels, scan an Android in the Traffic Tunnels, search a MANTIKOR locker room, read the last vehicle weighing logs and enter the Confiscation Room, then transmit MANTIKOR security's last recordings back to her.

In When Everything Falls, a box from the MANTIKOR facility turns out to hold specialized radios encrypted with geotags, and the coordinates start right where the mutineers stashed their weapons. Our Exodus page follows that mutiny across the other maps.

What the valley was before

Away from the tunnels, the Blue Gate still shows traces of ordinary life and of the first war against ARC. The quests point to four of them:

  • An Olive Grove where Celeste's Bees! finds hives still alive, to the delight of Speranza's greenhouse crew.
  • A church whose roof now carries Raider satellite dishes.
  • A Maintenance Bunker with a purification system and blueprints, which Apollo wants for purer compounds in The Clean Dream.
  • Baron husks from the First Wave, fixed in place where they fell, which Shani wants opened in Dormant Barons.

The farmhouses and the Outpost

Frozen Trail gave the old buildings a new use. The Outpost project starts by photographing a surviving farmland house so Speranza can study how lasting structures were built, and community guides place that photo around the Ruined Homestead on this map. The Pendola Pass page covers where that project leads.

ARC and conditions at the Blue Gate

The machines tied to the valley's story are mostly dead ones: the Deforester husks the Nomads left behind, the First Wave Barons and the unknown ARC at the end of the Broken Earth trail. The living threats rotate with map conditions, and our ARC machines guide covers how each one fights.

One condition carries real story. Locked Gate is exclusive to the Blue Gate, and its briefing says a clandestine group has activated the Gate's emergency shutdown protocol. Raiders need four key cards to override it and find out what the group is hiding. The game has not said who that group is.

Weather changes the mood without changing the history. Cold Snap can bury the valley in snow, and the Frozen Trail 2.0 patch notes adjusted the map's lighting, exposure and color grading and fixed spots where players could get stuck. The map guide lists what is in rotation.

Theories: what the gate guarded (theory)

Everything in this section is interpretation. The game has not confirmed any of it.

The Blue Gate tunnels and the Stella Montis lobby share a security force. MANTIKOR left its locker room and logs here, and Stella Montis researchers complain in internal messages about MANTIKOR people down in their lobby. That makes it tempting to read the gate as the controlled road up to the research facility. Nothing states that the two sites were linked by road, and the Stella Montis page keeps the facility's own story separate.

The Locked Gate's clandestine group is a second open thread. The Nomads are the obvious suspects, since they already work in this valley and keep out of sight, but the condition text names nobody. The fracture is a third. Shani's data place it near the Blue Gate, and unknown ARC sit at the end of a fresh trail of destruction, yet no quest says ARC caused the quake. Our theories page collects the wider debates.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Blue Gate in ARC Raiders?

The Blue Gate is a mountain valley in the Rust Belt, at the gate that opens onto the mountain ranges. Speranza's Tube network only recently reached it, which is why its early quests are about building Raider structures there.

Who brought down the Deforester at the Blue Gate?

The Codex credits an unknown group of survivors called the Blue Gate Nomads, recognized by their flags and makeshift decorations. Their method left the husks surprisingly pristine, and the game names no individuals. Shani investigates the scene in With a Trace.

What is MANTIKOR in ARC Raiders?

MANTIKOR is a pre-Exodus group that the Codex says cancelled Project Heartwood and moved its funds to the Exodus. Under the Blue Gate, quests find its locker room, its Confiscation Room and logs about mutinies it repressed, logs that stop a few weeks before the Exodus.

What quests take place on the Blue Gate?

Story quests set there include A First Foothold, Reduced to Rubble, With a Trace, A Prime Specimen, Armored Transports and Bees!, plus newer ones such as A Dead End and Home to Roost. The quest tracker lists them all.
