ARC Raiders Hotfix: Embark Removes NewConsole Command Exploit

Embark Studios has pushed an emergency hotfix to ARC Raiders, removing the "NewConsole" command that allowed PC players to access developer tools. The feature, which was never intended to be player-facing, had been exploited to gain significant visual advantages over other raiders by disabling environmental effects like fog, smoke, and darkness.

PC players discovered they could access ARC Raiders' developer console by adding specific launch parameters to Steam. Once enabled, the console provided access to commands that could override the game's visual settings, essentially removing the environmental effects that normally limit visibility.

The exploit allowed players to disable fog, dust, smoke effects, and even see clearly in complete darkness. This gave cheaters an enormous advantage, letting them spot enemies through smoke grenades and in shadowy areas where other players would be effectively blind.

The console exploit created a massive imbalance between players. Those using the commands could see through tactical smoke deployed by defenders, track players hiding in shadows, and spot targets at ranges where fog should have provided concealment. Multiple players reported being killed through smoke grenades despite taking defensive cover.

Perhaps more critically, the exploit was exclusive to PC players. Console players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S had no access to these commands, making crossplay lobbies fundamentally unfair. With ARC Raiders' crossplay enabled by default, this put console players at a severe disadvantage against PC exploiters.

The NewConsole exploit emerged as players searched for ways to gain advantages after Embark disabled Nvidia filters that were previously being abused. The console command method proved even more powerful than the filter exploits, prompting swift action from the development team.

This hotfix follows Embark's broader commitment to anti-cheat improvements. The studio recently announced they are "implementing significant changes to our rulesets and deploying new detection mechanisms to identify and remove cheaters." The NewConsole removal is part of this ongoing effort to maintain competitive integrity.

The community response has been largely positive, with players praising Embark's quick action. Many had reported suspicious kills where enemies seemed to have perfect awareness despite smoke cover or low-light conditions. The hotfix validates those concerns.

Some players have called for retroactive bans against those who exploited the command, while others appreciate that Embark addressed the root cause quickly. The studio's statement that they "may take action" leaves room for consequences without committing to a specific enforcement policy.
